In 2012, gymnast and dancer Tuany Nascimento launched Na Ponta dos Pés (On Top Toes), an open ballet class she teaches to the children of Alemão, northern Rio de Janeiro – A neighbourhood better know for violence and gang associations than inspiring dance careers.
English choreographer Charlotte Edmonds joins the inaugural Royal Ballet Young Choreographer Programme for the 2015/16 Season. She trained at The Royal Ballet School and as a student performed with The Royal Ballet in roles including Duck (Peter and the Wolf). She made her Royal Ballet choreographic debut in 2014 with the film The Indifferent Beak for Deloitte Ignite 2014.
Charlotte is filmed during the creation of a new ballet commissioned by The Royal Ballet School for their student summer performances at Holland Park.’
The Oslo-based theatre company Nordic Black Theatre visits the Opera with a dance drama about the legendary American boxer Muhammad Ali, who won the world heavyweight boxing title several times. Great as I am takes Muhammad Ali’s life as its starting point, and tells the story of the man who became a voice for the voiceless in the US, and throughout the world.
